Elegant phone designed for women, Lenovo S720 believed to targeting markets especially for women, although not equipped with special features which designed for women. What about the features? And what about the performance? Read this short review.

Design

132.3 x 68.3 x 9.9 mm, 140 g

With 2 colors pink and white, making Lenovo S720 phone called as the Feminine. Not only that, the design that carried is also fairly to support to be used by women. Bring a design forms like typically smartphone eliminates elbow on every corner design. Moreover, body leanness indeed make it look nicer. But even so the phone surely still can be used by men.

If part of the front side dominated by a touch screen, then the back cover were made with materials that slightly visible. It gave the impression ‘luxury’ when viewed briefly. Inside tucked two sim card slots overlap each other and micro sd slot next to it.

On the front side Lenovo also minimizes button. At the top, lenovo embed the power button/lock and the port 3.5 mm. While there is a camera button on the right side. At the bottom there is a microUSB port. Meanwhile, on the left there are volume buttons. Towards the back you’ll find the camera lens with LED flash as well.

Screen & Interfaces

IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors, 540 x 960 pixels, 4.5 inches (~ 245 ppi pixel density), Android OS, v4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), custom Lenovo UI.

Running with Android 4.0.4 operating system aka ice cream sandwich, with a custom UI that resembles Jelly Bean and its a custom Lenovo UI default. You can choose one of the options provided.

With the phone’s screen that stretches 4.5 inches with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels seems less perfect. Image displayed is not so solid. But if compared to its official price at $200 rates, there’s nothing to complain about from this side.

Hardware

MTK 6577 Dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A9, PowerVR SGX531 GPU, Internal: 4 GB ROM, 512 MB RAM, External: MicroSD up to 32 GB.

Using MTK 6577 chipset dual-core 1 GHz, does not necessarily making it freeway. Some time lags was encountered while accessing the default features. This resulted in feeling less comfortable in usage. Allegedly, this is because the RAM carried less than the maximum since only carrying 512MB RAM capacity only. While a number of UI offered a slick hardware needed to appear perfect.

We also evaluate with the benchmarking applications and the results can be viewed in the following figure.

Software

Lenovo app: Lenovo Note, Lenovo Power, UC Browser, Kingsoft Office

Lenovo S720 brings a number of customized software, such as the Lenovo Power to manage battery consumption and monitoring applications are most sucking-up much power. Next there is the Lenovo Note, an records management application, which supports handwriting, audio records and so forth. This application seems to accommodate you who like to create a diary or those who want to experience the unique Galaxy Note feature from Samsung.

For surfing in addition to the default browser, users can also surf with UC Browser 8.

For mobile office suite is equipped with a document viewer/editor called Kingsoft Office. This app actually free. But kindly Lenovo has provided for you, so as not to bother looking anymore.

Connectivities

HSDPA, HSUPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP, EDR, MicroUSB

Android phones are able to connect to the Internet using HSDPA network. Not only that, for other wireless connection are also available for Wifi and Bluetooth tethering.

Camera

8 MP, 3264 x 2448 pixels, auto-focus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, 720p video, front camera 1 MB.

Lenovo S720 equipped with pretty good camera and also equipped with a flash light fittings. Unfortunately the results are not as expected. Since the shooting in low-light conditions, the flash will actually worsen the situation. Light falling on the object will be too bright and resulting the object becomes less focused.

However taking outdoors and without flash will produce an image with natural tone. Tend to appear noises but pretty reliable to upload this result on Facebook.

Conclusion

Lenovo S720 can added to wish-list target especially for the women. Attractive design, a choice of attractive colors and a pretty UI worthy appreciated. Unfortunately the price is likely to be more expensive than the Android in its class, primarily from the local vendors, makes this phone has many competitors.
