Review WD Blue SN550 SSD. More and more M.2 NVMe storage variants are on the market. Western Digital as one of the old storage players is very aware of the need for this latest storage type.

Therefore, they provide an update to the product series that used to be only available for HDDs. WD Blue SN550 is the latest product that supports the M.2 interface and has arrived at the CnwinTech Lab.

The version of the unit we tested had a capacity of 500GB. Storage M.2 successor to SN500 is present in my country through local distributors. What kind of performance and features does it offer? Review WD Blue SN550 Design

As the name implies, the WD Blue SN550 carries the distinctive blue color elements of the WD Blue series, from the sales box to the device PCB. In appearance, this M.2 NVMe storage appears simple, arguably simpler than several competing brands.

This is because it only uses one side of the PCB to mount the storage chip, and actually only one manufacturer’s storage chip is installed. The remaining space is used for posting stickers containing product-related information, such as serial numbers.

Other components such as the controller chip and capacitor are embedded near the M.2 port. Apart from the bright blue color used, the WD Blue SN550’s physical appearance does not really give the impression that it is a product that offers high performance.

Storage Capacity

WD Blue SN550 uses a chip made by SanDisk, with a standalone controller by WD and the M.2 2280 form factor. It comes in a choice of capacities of 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB. Yes, this compact storage does not yet provide a variant with 2TB of storage space.

Western Digital claims that the lifetime can reach 300TB for the 500GB variant, and 600TB for the 1TB version. Next, we immediately tried to test its performance using the CrystalDiskMark application.
