Anker PowerPort Atom 3 Slim Review. There aren’t many charging adapters with thin bodies.
In such circumstances, there is a charger that uses GaN (gallium nitride) as the power semiconductor material of the Anker PowerPort Atom 3 Slim and has a thin housing.
Here, we review the design, charging speed, and ease of use of the Anker PowerPort Atom 3 Slim 30W compact charger. If you’re wondering if there’s a charger that’s thin and can fit in your pocket, feel free to follow our review below.
Anker PowerPort Atom 3 Slim features
The Anker PowerPort Atom 3 Slim is an adapter that can charge devices with a USB-C port type.
By using GaN (gallium nitride) for semiconductors, this product has reached thinness of 1.6 cm. It’s hard to find a charger that’s as thin as 1.6mm!
Apart from that, it is a charging adapter that also supports 30 W high output charging, and makes it possible to charge the iPad Air 4, MacBook Air, etc. At full speed apart from smartphones like the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.
Anker PowerPort Atom 3 Slim Highlighted Features
- The next-generation GaN (gallium nitride) semiconductor is adopted
- Supports USB-C PD and output up to 30W
- Can charge iPhone / iPad / MacBook Air
- You can charge your smartphone up to 50% in 30 minutes
- Built-in folding plug
- Size: 76 x 45 x 16mm
- Weight: 57g
- Terminal price (Amazon): USD 25
Despite its compact body size, the USB-C PD (Power Delivery) allows output up to 30W.
Output supported
- 5V × 2.4A = 12W
- 9V × 3A = 27W
- 15V × 2A = 30W
- 20V × 1.5A = 30W
As it supports a wide variety of outputs, it can also handle full-speed charging from smartphones such as iPhones, tablets like the iPad with large screens, and mobile notebook PCs like the MacBook Air.
There is also the normal type Anker PowerPort 3 mini (30W) charging adapter.
Anker PowerPort Atom 3 Slim Review
Appearance design size
The Anker PowerPort Atom 3 Slim is a charging adapter that uses the latest generation GaN semiconductor (gallium nitride), making it more compact than the regular type, but what is slightly different is the thin type charging adapter. That’s right.
The product size is like a card box which is too high, but even if you carry it in your pocket as is it won’t be a problem, so it’s a great size for those who want to carry it as is.
The main body size is 76 x 45 x 16 mm, which is thinner than the main body of the MacBook Air if you look at its thinness. (The target comparison looks cool).
The compatible port is USB-C and is a simple type that can only charge one terminal.
As it can produce up to 30W, it can charge not only tablets like the iPad Pro but also mobile notebook PCs like the MacBook and MacBook Air.
The PowerPort Atom 3 Slim has a plug that can be folded, so it’s easy to carry around flat without protrusions.

I compared the housing size with the same 30W output charger from the same company, the Anker PowerPort 3 mini.
The vertical and horizontal sizes are very large, but the thickness of the housing is very thin.
The PowerPort Atom 3 Slim with small size design stands out when you compare the case size to the 30W charger used in the MacBook and MacBook Air.
This is a big advantage of using a GaN (gallium nitride) semiconductor.
Be careful because there are scenes that cannot be used
However, the PowerPort Atom 3 Slim is wider than other chargers, so you can’t use it due to its wide body on the plug of the charger that plugs in close together.
Also, you may not be able to use a tabletop socket in some hotel rooms. Due to the vertical length of the housing, you cannot play it unless there is a gap between the contents and the table.
I took the PowerPort Atom 3 Slim with me when I actually went to Tokyo, but one hotel couldn’t use this adapter brilliantly.
You might be able to use it by turning it upwards but to be honest, I find it inconvenient to carry a charging adapter that may not be used for business trips and travel purposes.
So I think the PowerPort Atom 3 Slim should only be used if you know what the electrical outlet looks like.
With that in mind, I wonder what this particular shape is… but it’s a convenient charger for business people who use multiple mobile devices as it fits in a suit’s breast pocket. It might be good to say.
Actual output / charging time performance
The 13-inch MacBook Pro comes with a 61W charger, but you can charge it normally with the PowerPort Atom 3 Slim 30W, so it’s a good idea to bring it with you in case of an emergency.
When I plug in the PowerPort Atom 3 Slim to the 13-inch MacBook Pro and check how much output it has (19.6V x 1.45A = 28W), it can supply power normally.
I measured how long it will take to complete the charge.
Charge your MacBook Pro 13 with the PowerPort Atom 3 Slim
- 0 minutes: 40%
- 30 minutes: 56%
- 60 minutes: 74%
- 90 minutes: 91%
- 120 minutes: 100%
Charging time will be slower than using the original 61W charger, but I wonder if it’s a speed that’s okay for working while charging on the go.
Of course, there’s no doubt that it’s better to have a 60W charger, but I don’t think it’s necessary to carry a bulky charger with you when you take it out.
When I plugged it into the iPhone 11 and checked how much output it had (8.74V x 1.44A = 12W), it was able to supply power.
I measured how long it will take to complete the charge.
Charge iPhone 11 with the PowerPort Atom 3 Slim
- 0 minutes: 20%
- 30 minutes: 63%
- 60 minutes: 87%
- 90 minutes: 98%
- 100 minutes: 100%
It took about 100 minutes to fully charge the battery from 20%, so it looks like it can be charged in about 2 hours if the battery runs out of battery.
A USB-C PD compatible cable is required
A PD compatible USB-C cable is required for Power Delivery (PD) charging with the Anker PowerPort Atom 3 Slim.
Some cables are the same shape but not compatible with PD, so be careful when purchasing a USB-C to C cable.
USB-C compatible devices such as the MacBook are products that use USB PD charging, so you can use the included USB-C cable as is.
If you want to PD charge with the iPhone 12, you’ll need to purchase a USB-C to Lightning cable. Third-party USB-C to Lightning cables is also available from the manufacturer.
Many USB-C cables support PD, but be aware that sometimes you may see cables that do not support USB 3.1 (Gen2) high-speed data transfer.
This USB-C PD cable is L-shaped, so you can charge your smartphone smartly.
