- 30% smaller than a stock MacBook charger, with a foldable plug for easy storage.
- the smooth matte exterior, glossy detailing around the port face, and cool blue LED provide an elite look and feel.
- Works flawlessly with nearly all mobile USB-C devices, and other laptops, tablets and more At full 30W speed.
Anker PowerPort 3 mini Review. The Anker 30W charger has a small charging adapter, the PowerPort Atom PD 1 which uses gallium nitride (GaN), but the specifications are such that the plug cannot be folded.
Why can’t I fold it? So I recommend the Anker PowerPort 3 Mini charging adapter, which is ideal for business trips and traveling.
Here, I am reviewing the design, charging speed, and ease of use of the Anker PowerPort 3 mini 30W fast charger, so I bought an iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro, but no power adapter included…! Please refer to those who say.
Anker PowerPort 3 mini Review features
The Anker PowerPort III mini is a charging adapter that supports a USB-C port and 30W output and can charge a tablet, MacBook Air, etc. at full speed apart from smartphones like the iPhone.
Anker PowerPort 3 mini features
- Supports USB-C PD and output up to 30W
- Can charge iPhone / iPad / MacBook Air
- You can charge your smartphone up to 50% in 30 minutes
- Built-in folding plug
- Dimensions: 51 x 44 x 28 mm
- Weight: 63g
- Terminal price (Amazon): USD 29
Because the semiconductor material is not a new material for gallium nitride (GaN) but general silicon (Si), the housing is larger than the PowerPort Atom PD 1.
However, since the plug is collapsible, I wonder if the Anker PowerPort 3 mini is any better at carrying it around. In any case, I want the plug to be foldable.
Despite its compact body size, the USB-C PD (Power Delivery) allows output up to 30W.
Output supported
- 5V × 2.4A = 12W
- 9V × 3A = 27W
- 15V × 2A = 30W
- 20V × 1.5A = 30W
The original MacBook Air power adapter comes with an output of 30W. In other words, you can reduce the size while maintaining the same output.
In addition, the Anker PowerPort 3 mini is also recommended as a charging adapter for daily use because it can be used to charge smartphones that support fast charging.
There is also the thin type Anker PowerPort Atom 3 Slim (30W) charger adapter.
Anker PowerPort 3 mini Review
Design Size Appearance
The Anker PowerPort 3 mini is a slightly rounded white charging adapter that turns on an LED indicator while charging.
The section with the port has a glossy finish, but the surrounds have a matte finish, giving it a serene style.
The size of the Anker PowerPort 3 mini housing is (51 x 44 x 28 mm), which is smaller than a golf ball.
You can see that it is smaller than the 30W charging adapter of the MacBook Air.
It’s amazing that the output is equal to 30W with this size difference.
However, the Apple 30W charger is designed so that the plug can be removed and an extension cable can be connected. If you often work away from an extension cord, we recommend using the original adapter.
The Anker PowerPort 3 mini has a built-in collapsible connector.
Comparing the main body size with the PowerPort Atom PD 1 which uses gallium nitride, the width is smaller, but you can see that it has both height and depth.
However, the PowerPort 3 mini, which can fold the plug, can easily fit into a backpack, so I was wondering if it was easier to handle.
There is a risk of damaging the terminals if the plug is removed. (First of all, it’s a story to put in the bag …)
Because the Anker PowerPort 3 mini has a small width, it can be used without problems even if it is parallel to the power strip.
On the left is the Anker 18W charging adapter, and on the right is the Apple 30W charging adapter, so you can see how compact the PowerPort 3 mini is.
Actual output / charging time performance
The Anker PowerPort 3 mini supports 30W high-power charging, so you can charge your MacBook Air with a 30W charger at full speed.
When I actually checked the output power (19.3V x 1.43A = 27.6W), I confirmed that the MacBook Air was charging.
It’s great to be able to charge at the same rate of speed, even though it’s about two times less than the original power adapter.
You can quickly charge your iPhone 11 with a USB-C to Lightning cable.
The original iPhone 11 adapter was the 5W type, but the main body supports fast charging, so you can charge up to 18W at full speed using the Anker PowerPort 3 mini.
When I actually checked the output power (8.69V x 1.91A = 16.6W), I confirmed that the iPhone 11 was charging.
I charged the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone SE and measured how long it took to fully charge.Criterias iPhone 11 Pro iPhone SE 0 minutes 3% 0% 30 minutes 56% 40% 60 minutes 82% 70% 90 minutes 94% 95% 120 minutes 100% 100%
The iPhone 8 is capable of 40% charge in 30 minutes and 70% in 1 hour. I was wondering if the iPhone 11 Pro will take more time because it has a bigger battery capacity, but I can see that the iPhone 11 Pro charges much faster.
In any case, it seems that the smartphone can be fully charged in about 1.5 hours. Apart from that, the 11-inch / 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the iPad Air 4, etc. It also charges fast, so it is recommended for those who also have a tablet terminal.
A USB-C PD compatible cable is required
A PD compatible USB-C cable is required for Power Delivery (PD) charging with the Anker PowerPort 3 mini.
Some cables are the same shape but not compatible with PD, so be careful when purchasing a USB-C to C cable.
USB-C compatible devices such as the MacBook are products that assume USB PD charging, so you can use the included USB-C cable as is.
However, if you want to PD charge with the iPhone 11, you’ll need to purchase a “USB-C to Lightning cable”. Third-party USB-C to Lightning cables is also available from the manufacturer.
Many USB-C cables support PD, but be aware that sometimes you may see cables that do not support USB 3.1 (Gen2) high-speed communication.
This USB-C PD cable is L-shaped, so you can charge your smartphone smartly.
Anker PowerPort 3 Mini review: Summary
The Anker PowerPort 3 mini is a small charging adapter that supports 30W output with one USB-C PD port.
It is more compact than Apple’s 30W power adapter, so you can take it on trips or business trips to make your charging environment more comfortable.
Anker PowerPort 3 mini Review: PROS
- Supports USB-C PD and can fast charge 30W
- Folding plug for easy portability
- Safe style and easy to use
- Charge your mobile laptop at full speed
- Terminal price (Amazon): USD 29
Anker PowerPort 3 mini Review: CONS
- Nothing special with the features
I was wondering if there was anything worrying about the PowerPort 3 mini. It might be a little bigger than a charger that uses gallium nitride, but it’s quite small compared to the original adapter, and it’s an easy-to-use, portable charger.
