This time, I can try the real Yoga Slim 7i Carbon as fast as I can, so let’s introduce its look, usability, performance, etc. of this product.
Review Yoga Slim 7i Carbon Lenovo: Beautiful and pure design based on white color
The Lenovo Yoga Slim series is a notebook PC featuring a slim body and a sophisticated design. The attention paid to materials, and models using carbon and fabric materials, as well as metal materials, have been released so far.
As the name suggests, the new Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is also a product that uses carbon material. However, it is not the same as conventional products and uses second-generation carbon fiber which is 47% lighter and 25% more durable than before. As a result, despite being a type with a size of 13.3 inches, it has achieved a mass of less than 1 kg, which is about 988 g in the lightest configuration. In addition, in the US Department of Defense (MIL-STD-810G) standard military tests, items such as falls and shakes, high/low temperatures, changes in temperature, altitude and dust have passed.
And the most prominent characteristic is the body color based on white. “Moon White”, a bright white color that contrasts with black when you hear it as a carbon material, is used on almost the entire surface of the case, the logo on the top plate is silver, and the bezel around the screen is black.
Some may wonder, “Aren’t the white stains visible?”, But this product has a three-layer anti-fingerprint paint finish on the surface, giving it a silky matte finish. Therefore, it is difficult to get dirty and can be easily wiped away even if it gets dirty.
The main body size is relatively compact adopting a narrow frame design, and the width: about 296.9 x deep: about 208.9 x thick: about 14.25 to 15 mm. It has a footprint that is almost the same size as A4 paper, and because it is so thin, it is easy to fit into a document bag.
Equipped with a display with a screen occupancy rate of 91% which gives the impression of reality
Many notebook PCs recently use ultra-fine bezels to achieve screen size and miniaturization, and this product is one of them. The screen occupancy rate of 91% is achieved with an ultra-narrow bezel design of 5 mm or less, even when the non-display area of the liquid crystal and bezel is combined. Playing videos on full screen is quite immersive and moving.
The liquid crystal panel’s resolution is WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600 pixels), and an aspect ratio of 16:10, which is slightly longer than a full HD screen. As the amount of information that can be displayed vertically is increasing, I like that it’s easy to browse the Web with browsers and edit documents.
300 nits screen brightness and supports Dolby Vision standard HDR. The color gamut is 100% sRGB, which is quite high quality for a notebook PC’s internal display. In fact, the color reproducibility is good, and the original colors display well, comparable to the external monitor with 100% sRGB that I used as a reference.
At the top of the display are the IR camera and built-in webcam that can be used for facial recognition. If you set the “Unlock and boot” mode in which the screen opening and closing and the power supply are connected, you can enter with facial recognition at the same time you open the screen, which is very convenient. By the way, if you use the “Lenovo Vantage” pre-installed system utility, you can always turn off the webcam. It also has functions to adjust camera image quality and blur your background. Some video conferencing applications do not have a background change feature, but it seems useful when using such applications.
The keyboard is white to match the body color. Although the main body is compact, the actual key pitch measures around 19 mm (face value: 18.7 mm), which is sufficient. The keystroke is shallow, but the top shape of the keys is curved, which is a trademark of Lenovo, making it easy to hold your finger and type.
Achieve high performance with the Tiger Lake
The Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is equipped with an 11th generation Core processor called Tiger Lake inside the CPU. Models adopting Core i5-1135G7 or Core i7-1165G7 are available, but this time I tried a higher model. In addition, the main specifications are as follows.
Yoga Slim 7i Carbon Main specifications of the evaluation machine CPU Core i7-1165G7 (maximum 4.70GHz / 4 cores 8 threads) Graphics Intel Iris Xe Graphics (Built-in Processor) Memory 8GB LDDR4X SSD 512GB (PCIe)
The processor is equipped with the latest Tiger Lake, but how good is it? So I decided to run some benchmarks to measure performance.
First of all, in “CINEBENCH R20”, the score of multi-core CPU is 1934pts and single core is 535pts. The multi-core performance is slightly lower than the Ryzen 7 4700U, but the single-core high score is incredible, and depending on the processing content, it often feels more comfortable.
Furthermore, when “PCMARK 10” was run to check the overall performance of the personal computer, the overall score was 4752.
Looking at the breakdown of the “PCMARK 10” score, the Essentials category that shows basic performance reaches a score of 9605, the Productivity category that shows business app performance is 6786, and the Digital Content Creation category that shows creative app performance is 4871, all of which are convenience indicators. This is way over 3000. If you look closely, you can see that Photo Editing’s score is 7723 and Video Editing is 5088, which means you can handle photo editing and video editing comfortably.
When I checked the storage performance with “CrystalDiskMark”, the sequential reads were very fast, which is over 3500 MB / s due to adopting a PCIe connected SSD. In fact, even when using the “unlock and boot” mentioned above, it can be used almost without waiting after unlocking the screen. If you leave your chair, put off work, and then go back to work, you will be able to continue your work smoothly without having to wait.
I also tried benchmarks related to graphics.
|Low quality||1920×1080||16196||Very comfortable|
|Standard quality||1920×1080||14633||Very comfortable|
|Highest quality||1920×1080||12860||Very comfortable|
|Standard quality||1920×1080||6773||Very comfortable|
|High quality||1920×1080||5395||Very comfortable|
The performance is comparable to that of entry-level graphics cards, and you can see that you can comfortably play heavy games like “FINAL FANTASY XIV: Jet Black Villas”. If it’s a lightweight online game, you can enjoy it without any problems.
The battery can also be driven for a long time
The battery has a relatively large capacity of 50Wh, and the travel time is usually around 16 hours. Therefore, when I measured it using the “bench” battery benchmark software, the result was 7 hours 32 minutes. Also, when measuring, set the power setting to “smart cooling” in “Lenovo Vantage”, set the power mode to “better battery”, set the screen brightness to “40%”, and BBench “Web at 60-second intervals” Check “Patrol” and “Keystrokes at 10-second intervals” to measure the time from when the battery is fully charged to the power off.
“Lenovo Vantage” also has a power-saving mode that is more “battery efficient”, and if you choose it, the value will be close to the nominal value. After all, having this much will be sufficient for daily use.
In addition, the interface is equipped with a USB Type-C x 3 headphone/microphone terminal. Of the USB Type-C, two are “Thunderbolt 4.0” compatible and one is USB 3.2 Gen 2 compatible. As it is a slim notebook PC, the only one in the form of a usable port is USB Type-C, but recently, USB Type-C compatible peripherals and cheap adapters are on the rise, so it won’t be a problem in practical use.
Easy-to-use Notebook PC for mobile and telework
The Yoga Slim 7i Carbon features Tiger Lake and a 13.3-inch high-definition liquid crystal display in a beautifully designed case. It is sturdy and high-performance that you can’t imagine from its appearance, which gives a subtle impression at first glance, and you can use it comfortably whether you carry it on the go or work hard at home or in the office.
If you are looking for a high-performance laptop that can be used neatly even for teleworking purposes, or you are looking for a laptop with a sophisticated design, this product is definitely worth paying attention to.
